WELCOME TO THE MOTHERS AND CHILDREN (MAC) PROGRAM
MAC is the Minnesota name for the CSFP (Commodity Supplemental Food Program).
These are the standards to participate in MAC:
Children age 5 to 6 years old and Women who are not breast feeding and have a baby between 6 months and one year old.
You must live in the State of Minnesota;
You do not need to be a citizen of the United States.
Your family’s income must be within the guidelines set by MAC (185% of poverty level). The USDA increases the guidelines for inflation once each year.
You must not be receiving WIC (Women, Infants & Children) support.
Foods are chosen because they contain the nutrients needed for good growth and development.
Women and children get these foods monthly:
Dry and canned evaporated milk and cheese
Ready to eat or hot cereal
Instant potatoes or rice or macaroni or spaghetti
Canned juice, fruits, and vegetables
Protein: Canned beef, pork, chicken, meatball stew, tuna, salmon or egg mix
Three times a year: peanut butter and dry beans
Foods for infants or infant formula with iron, infant cereal, and apple juice.
MAC is a supplemental, not a total food program. You can take the money you save from not having to buy these kinds of foods and use it to buy other foods needed for a balanced intake. As a suggestion, some of these other foods can be fresh or frozen fruit and vegetables, cheese, yogurt, bread, tortillas, or meat and fish.
