Some people prepare taxes on their own or have help from a friend. There are other ways that you might get help with your tax preparation.
YOU CAN
Find out if there is a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site. Many times organizations in your local community will be aware of these sites and can provide information. VITA sites do have certain income guidelines that allow them to provide assistance. Another way to find out is to call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 to find the nearest VITA location and its days and hours of operation.

FirstLINK’s HotLINE at 701-235-SEEK (7335). HotLINE staff will be provided the names of VITA and other free tax sites in the local area beginning January 21, 2006.

In addition to VITA sites and for persons who may be above the income levels that VITA sites can serve, there is the AARP Tax-Aide program. Originally identified as being just for seniors, many Tax-Aide sites now serve all ages. You can find out about these locations by going to the Tax-Aide site and typing in your ZIP code.
